Is Home Birth Really Safe?
I encourage all women and their partners to research the safety of home birth.  Many studies indicate that out-of-hospital birth with a certified professional midwife is as safe as hospital birth for the low-risk mother and newborn.  Women also report many additional benefits related to midwifery care.  Here are some studies to get your started:

Oucomes of Care for 16,924 Planned Home Births in the United States: The Midwives of North America Statistics Project, 2004-2009

Outcomes of Planned Home Births with Certified Professional Midwives: Large Prospective Study in North America

Outcomes Associated with Planned Home and Planned Hospital Births in Low-Risk Women Attended by Midwives in Ontario, Canada, 2003–2006: A Retrospective Cohort Study

What About The Cost?
Midwifery care is well known for its economic advantage over traditional obstetrical care and hospital birth, costing only a fraction of what those options cost, and providing more personalized and complete care.

Many insurance companies will reimburse their plan members for midwifery care at their out-of-network rate, reducing your out-of-pocket expense even further.  I am always happy to provide a bill for your insurance company.

I take payments and can be flexible with how and when they occur. Our goal is for you to be paid in full by 36 weeks.  If the cost is prohibitive for you, talk to me.

How is Home Birth Different from
Birth Center Birth?

Most midwives carry all the same equipment to home births that would be available at a birth center, such as oxygen, resuscitation equipment, IV equipment, a pulse oximeter, antihemorragic medications, tools for newborn screening and procedures, suturing supplies, and many others.

The real difference with home birth is that your labor and birth take place in your own space.  You have more freedom to create the atmosphere that is right for you, and you don't need to get in a car and travel while laboring, and again after giving birth. For some women, there is a stronger sense of comfort and empowerment when your care providers are working in your space rather than you experiencing the vulnerabilities of labor in their space.
